Mooring Equipment Guidelines 4th edition has adopted drastic changes to the approach adopted towards mooring system, mooring lines and mooring fittings. MEG 4 requires that design and operation of the mooring system are properly assessed and understood to avoid any injury to personnel on board and on terminal. It aims at bringing all stake holders (Ship owners/ classification/ Ship builders/ Terminal and vessel) to come together to ensure that operations are performed safely. With the publication of the 4th Edition vessels are managers are to ensure that their vessels are provided with a Mooring System Management Plan and a Line Management Plan. This plan will be subjected to scrutiny by third parties and will be referred by the vessel for performing operations.
