Seafarers wanting to sail on a tanker need to be duly qualified under
Section A – Table V/1-1-1 & Table V/1-2-1 of the STCW code with specific
duties for loading, unloading and care in transit for handling of oil and
chemical & liquefied gas cargoes. The coverage of the course is wide
in scope and includes tanker safety, fire safety measures and systems,
prevention and control of pollution, operational practice and obligations
under applicable laws and regulations, thereby covering all training
necessary to apply the provisions of Annex I / II of MARPOL 73/78 as
amended. In addition, the course covers the aspects on board by including
a section on safe working practices and procedures in accordance
with legislation and industry guidelines and personal shipboard safety
relevant to oil and chemical and liquefied gas tankers that are in line with
the ISM Code and the SMS on board.
On successful completion of this course the seafarer is eligible to apply
to UK-MCA for a Certificate of Proficiency in “Basic Training for Oil,
Chemical and Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations”, Level 1 DCE
endorsement.

Knowledge of the properties of oil, chemicals, and Liquefied Gases and
the hazards associated with them
Ability to apply health, safety and environmental precautions and
measures when working on oil, chemical and liquefied gas tankers
Ability to carry out safe oil, chemical and Liquefied gas tanker
cargo operations.
