Minimum of 6 months sea time in a manned engine-room or periodically unmanned engine-room on a seagoing ship powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW or more as a first assistant to Engineer Officer in charge of watch

The Engineer Officer onboard ship has to be very familiar with the modern machinery and equipment, before taking charge as an independent watch keeper. The technology advancement and extensive use of instrumentation and controls, increased the number of U.M.S. Class vessels tremendously. The watch keeper’s quick response towards critical situations and abnormalities is very important for the safety of the ship.

A three day mandatory course for junior marine engineers, approved by DG Shipping India is based on the engine resource management and other training requirement specified in STCW as amended in 2010.

The course is based on IMO Model Course 2.07 “Engine Room Simulator” and covers the following training areas at the Operational Level.
